In 5G news, American Tower and Verizon Communications have entered into a new agreement to facilitate the deployment of 5G networks in the United States. In Europe, Nokia and Finland’s Telia announced the world’s first commercial 5G standalone network with network slicing capabilities for fixed wireless access services.
Ericsson and the Advanced Wireless Aviation Experimentation and Research Platform, funded by the National Science Foundation and a consortium of industry partners, announced a collaboration to advance the use of 5G for drone operations to support smart agriculture. The demo includes real-time monitoring of grazing patterns on cattle farms.

That’s the vision of Coverage Above and Beyond, a new initiative to connect mobile phones everywhere, announced by T-Mobile CEO and president Mike Sievert and SpaceX chief engineer Elon Musk. The plan would leverage Starlink, SpaceX’s constellation of satellites in low-Earth orbit, and T-Mobile’s wireless network — perhaps eliminating our dreaded “dead zone” forever.
Comcast announced at the SCTE Cable-Tec Expo that Comcast Cable plans to double the energy efficiency of its network by 2030, halving the electricity consumed per terabyte of data. The company also announced successful testing of the final technology components to deliver multi-gigabit symmetrical speeds powered by 10G and DOCSIS 4.0 across the Comcast network, leading to the launch of multi-gigabit internet speeds in the U.S., with plans to reach the end of 2025, More than 50 million homes and businesses.
